Evra Patch

The Evra Patch is a transdermal contraceptive patch that delivers a combination of hormones, estrogen and progestin, to prevent pregnancy. It works by stopping ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to block sperm, and altering the uterine lining. The patch is worn on the skin and replaced weekly, offering a convenient and effective alternative to daily birth control pills

The Evra Patch works by releasing a combination of hormones, estrogen and progestin, through the skin into the bloodstream. These hormones prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation, thickening the cervical mucus to block sperm, and altering the uterine lining to prevent implantation. The patch is applied once a week for three weeks, followed by a patch-free week to allow for a withdrawal bleed.

1. Apply the patch: Place the patch on clean, dry, and hairless skin in areas such as the buttocks, abdomen, upper arm, or upper back for 7 days
2. Replace the patch weekly: After 7 days, remove the old patch and apply a new one. Do this for 3 consecutive weeks
3. Take a patch-free week: After 3 weeks of wearing the patch, go patch-free for the 4th week
4. Start a new cycle: After the patch-free week, apply a new patch to begin the next cycle, even if you are still bleeding

No major side effects are observed but you may experience mild symptoms of Nausea or upset stomach, headaches, breast tenderness, mood swings.

If you start using the Evra Patch on the first day of your period, it is effective immediately, and you are protected from pregnancy right away. If you begin at any other time in your cycle, it will take 7 days for the patch to become fully effective
